Super Awesome Campaign of Awesomeness
A fierce and noble race of large humanoids in the ancient days, the Goliaths were dwindling in numbers even in the latter days of the the Age of Myth. Their homeland in the mountain passes meant they often came into contact with the burrowing dwarven people. Living in the ice-capped and frigid peaks of the mountains gave the goliaths a special reverence for fire and heat, which allowed them to survive. As such, they favored the Aspect of Light and worshipped him as the Lord of the Flame. Their neighbors the dwarves, however, were staunch supporters of the Aspect of Order, and worshipped the Earth. These differences in beliefs and tensions caused by their close proximity and competition for food and space led to hostilities that developed into generations-long feud between the two races.
In the early days, the dwarves were under constant threat from the larger race and lived on the brink of extinction until the first halls were dug of their impenetrable fortress city in the mountains. Eventually, the dwarves organized themselves. They became effective blacksmiths and tacticians. They began to gain ground in their long-standing struggle against the goliaths. Eventually, the giant people were conquered and submitted themselves to the rule of the newly formed Dwarven Empire. For the next several hundred years, the goliaths served as slaves and shock troops for their armies. Their numbers dwindled, and a few hundred years after the end of the Age of Myth, the dwarves announced that the goliath race was now extinct.
However, rumors abound that small groups of the giant race still survive in hiding. Spend time in any tavern and you’re bound to hear a tale of how so-and-so once saw an honest-to-Gods goliath in their travels and barely lived to tell the tale…
