The Humans

For most of the Age of Myth, the humans were a minor and unimportant race living in small nomadic bands on the great plains. They existed in far smaller numbers than the dwarves or elves, and generally kept to themselves. A few settlements existed here or there, but there was no human city to rival that of the other races.

All this changed at the end of the age. The humans banded together and founded a city, despite the dangers. Such a large congregation was a ripe target for monsters and other enemies. The Dwarven Empire had already been shamed by their failure to destroy the Elven city, and saw the founding of the Human city as another sign that the other races were slipping out of their control and challenging their might. When the Human city flourished despite the odds, the Empire decided to take matters into their own hands. When attempts to secretly throw the city into chaos failed, they launched a full-out attack. Their campaign against the Humans culminated in the historic Battle of Winter’s Eve, in which a relatively small band of humans successfully defended their city from a much larger dwarven invasion force.

The result of the battle was that the dwarves agreed to a truce with the humans, signaling the beginning of the end for their empire’s expasion. The humans began to flourish in importance and in numbers, and their city quickly became a crossroads of trade and the cultural center of all the lands. Today, humans live in many scattered settlements and are the most numerous of all the races. It is clear that the future of the world belongs in their hands, but many of the other races fear what kind of world these short-lived and impatient people will create…
